Welcome to the Cat Corner

The structures presented here bear only a very scant resemblance with music. The question is rather how many unmusical turns you can take until you break. That’s the essence of Cargo Cult – piracy of shape! You take up what you find: bamboo & cowrie shells in the Southern Seas, sound files from a British hard disk & the Cat’s own nasal voice in the Berlin Swamp. And you rig it up to a mock plane or a mock song. Something you have seen or heard elsewhere, something which left you awe-struck and makes you want to be part of it and become Commander of the Artifacts.

As you might know, humans and especially children are all in a rave about artifacts. But artifacts are dead and, Cargo Cult tells us, so are the Ancestors, who therefore preside over the artifacts. Luckily, the Cat is already quite old himself – so in an ever closer relation to the Ancestors.

The Ancestors are polyrhythmic because one straight riddim would bore the hell out of you when you are dead for a long time. And the Ancestors always love a break – so that’s why you hear breaks.

Apart from that, there is not much to say about the mock music presented here, only that the Cat can’t read notes, does not know what a song structure is or should be (refrain from the refrain, as 22 Piste Pirkko put it) and does not even have command of one single instrument, but is ignorant with devotion. So if you have some anthroposophic inclination towards sounds out of a source that has no clue, then just go ahead!



If you are of the cautious type, then you might be grateful for some guidance from great international thinkers who came into contact whith the structures piled up here:

If by some improbability drive you come to this site and find that you are quoted wrong or are sampled where you should not be sampled or remixed where you should not be remixed or by hyperbolical coincidence you have assembled the same song already somewhere in 1973 than just CONTACT me and I will delete it from the net.

If you should wonder what my name means, then I can tell you that it came to my mind while riding on the ferry to Pulau Pangkor. The TI was added later because a tall woman classified me as the „Tape Instructor“ and you should always take tall women into consideration. My companion, Mr. Dread, tells me that in Thai, Dong might mean monkey, what my other companion, Hanuman, actually is. It rings in my ear that Dong also translates as dick. So after all, the Cat seems to be thinking of herself as a male cat.

By the way, if somebody is interested to form with me the mighty International Movement of Postmature Presetlovers (IMOPP) firmly united under the meta claim: „Take the standard tools and use them the wrong way“ – you are also very welcome to contact me. I might even reply.
